Job Title:      Child Protection Outreach Officer SRF # 177

Reports to:   Field Protection Manager

Location:       Za’atari Camp, Mafraq, Irbid and Jarash

This position is under Consultancy agreement

BACKGROUND

International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Lead in the identification and assessment of potential foster and mentor families in camps and urban locations, and complete comprehensive and high-level documentation of the assessments.
  2. When requested, support in the identification, assessment and documentation of potential foster and mentor families in camps and urban areas, in support of IMC’s extensive child protection case management services in camps and urban areas.
  3. Oversee and manage the list of agreed upon foster and mentor families, through regular communication, visits and engagement with the families, in order to identify any changes in circumstances or support needed.
  4. Lead in the training and capacity building of the agreed upon foster and mentor families.
  5. Provide a high level of support to families hosting a child through foster care of mentorship.
  6. Closely coordinate with IMC’s child protection case management team to ensure that individual children’s needs are being met through supportive and safe alternative care arrangements.
  7. Closely coordinate and follow up with MOSD alternative care focal point / behavior mentor on the alternative care arrangements.
  8. As appropriate, be an active participant in the implementation of individual children’s care plans, for children placed in alternative care.
  9. Contribute to developing, modifying, and updating tools and forms that support and facilitate the implementation of the alternative care component.
  10. Contribute to the alternative care arrangement trainings, orientation, or capacity building activities for IMC internal staff and external parties.
  11. Coordination with the Camp Outreach officer in any issues that are related to the alternative care component including foster family options. 

Child Protection Outreach Component

  1. Provide support to the Outreach Volunteers, Para case workers, and CP communities committee whose responsibilities include engaging with the community on child protection issues and alternative care needs for unaccompanied and separated children, and children at risk.
  2. Coordinate with other NGO’s, agencies, and officials, to ensure IMC’s awareness on child protection and alternative care issues take place in collaboration with other actors in camps and urban.
  3. Ensure ongoing capacity building for the Child Protection Outreach Volunteers, Para caseworkers and CP communities committee members to develop their knowledge on the skills in identification of foster families and mentorship.
  4. Develop clear pathways for appropriate referral of foster families identified by Child Protection Outreach Volunteers, Para case workers and CP communities’ committee to IMC’s child protection case management team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling.
  • 4-5 years of general experience, of them 2 years of experience in a similar role
  • 3 years of experience in an NGO
