GBVAP and Women’s Empowerment Training of Trainers Consultant

Background

Collateral Repair Project (CRP), founded in 2006 to support refugees living in Jordan, runs a community center serving urban refugees and Jordanians in the East Amman neighborhood of Hashemi Shamali. With the start of the Syrian refugee crisis in 2011, our work expanded to serve Syrians, minority refugee groups, and impoverished Jordanians, with a focus on assisting extremely vulnerable refugees overlooked by larger organizations. CRP has steadily grown to reach larger beneficiary numbers and expand our services to underserved Sudanese, Yemeni, and Somali refugees through our second community center in Downtown Amman.

CRP has in place Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awareness and Leadership programs, tailored to encourage positive behavior in both men and women in the community and to harness community members’ capacity to take on leadership roles. Our gender-focused programming works towards addressing the prevalence of domestic violence, harassment, and discrimination in the communities we serve, and our leadership programming aims to encourage community members to take the lead in advocating for change in their own communities. Graduates of these programs are encouraged to train to become community tutors, and all CRP’s GBV programs are now led by members of the refugee and host populations under the supervision of CRP staff. In 2021, an external consultant reviewed and developed an updated version of CRP’s GBVAP and Women’s Empowerment seminar curriculum, as well as an improved facilitation methodology for seminar trainers with the support of CRP Community Center Programs staff.

This consultancy constitutes one part of a three-year project funded by the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women. The aim of the project is to improve the safety and wellbeing of women, girls, and the families and communities they belong to in targeted urban areas of Amman. CRP intends to achieve this through coordinated programming of three types: (1) Gender-Based Violence and Women’s Empowerment awareness raising seminars and a community-led volunteer service program, Leadership in Action, that will plan local interventions focused on GBV and women’s rights; (2) basic needs assistance for vulnerable female-headed households (FHHs) coupled with emotional and economic resilience programming; (3) Help Desk initiation at our community centers to improve help-seeking behavior and meet community-wide needs through internal programming and external referrals to local partner organizations and agencies.

Consultant Task Description

The aim of this consultancy will be to (1) prepare training materials based on CRP’s GBVAP and Women’s Empowerment seminar curriculum and facilitation methodology and (2) deliver a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop for community members and CRP staff (9 persons) who will give GBVAP and Women’s Empowerment seminars at Collateral Repair Project in 2022 and 2023.

Deliverables and Timeline

The project will take place between 7 December 2021 and 16 December 2021 and requires the effort of three working days. The following table outlines the deliverables and their final due dates:

Deliverable 1 l Due Date: 7 December 2021

Review curriculum and facilitation methodology; and develop training materials for ToT

• Prepare training instruction materials including curriculum and methodology review (format: powerpoint)
• Detail any logistical and material needs for the ToT workshop (Breakout group space, stationary, flip chart, IT requirements, etc.)
• Share with CRP Community Center Program Manager and GBV Lead for feedback

Deliverable 2 l Due Date: 12 December 2021

Implement feedback and review training materials

• Implement feedback from CRP Staff to training materials (as needed)

Deliverable 3 l Due Date: 13-14 December 2021

Deliver ToT workshop for community member trainees

• ToT workshop will be 2 full days (7 hours)

• 8 community members and 1 CRP staff member will attend the training

Deliverable 4 l Due Date: 16 December 2021

Brief report on ToT outcomes

• One-page report reviewing ToT outcomes and recommendation for further training and trainees skill development (strengths and weaknesses)

Consultant Qualifications

Consultant will have:

• In-depth knowledge and past experience of delivering GBV awareness training in the Jordanian context.
• Experience developing and delivering GBV awareness programming with refugees.
• Past experience developing curricula and training materials in the field of gender and development.
• Experience in delivering Training of Trainers courses, particularly in supporting trainers coming from within refugee communities.

Length of Contract

Three working days completed between 7 December 2021 to 16 December 2021.
