Psychosocial Support Officer

LOCATION

Amman, Jordan.

REPORTING TO

Psychosocial Support Project Manager.

OVERALL PURPOSE

Coordinate, facilitate, monitor and supervise the psychosocial support activities, community-based awareness, mobilization and referral activities related to the PSS Programme and in line with the programme objectives.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Psychosocial Support Project aims to improve the access to psychosocial support care and increase the overall PSS wellbeing through training of community health volunteers, conducting community-based adult peer-support groups, adult psychosocial support sessions, family psychosocial support sessions (caregivers and adolescents) and provision of dignity kits to the targeted beneficiaries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the team of CHVs and their activities and organize the day-to-day work. This is done through weekly meetings and regular phone calls and visits.
  • Manage the financial transactions of the PSS activities: ensuring the budget is accurate and spending follows the budget.
  • Support supervision, monitoring and evaluation assistance to the PSS CHVs facilitators providing psychological awareness interventions.
  • Implement data collection tools efficiently; with a special focus on referrals and follow up.
  • Be responsible for the selection and training of Community Health Volunteers (CHV).
  • Be responsible for community sensitisation and mobilisation related to PSS activities, family sessions and legal awareness sessions.
  • In coordination with the PSS project manager, prepare and contribute to preparing monthly reports on PSS activities, achievements, challenges and lessons learned.
  • Ensure close collaboration with coordinators from other NGOs, CBOs and working groups where necessary.
  • Support in implementation and monitoring of the PSS activities in participatory manner and in collaboration with the PSS Project Manager.
  • Regularly monitor activities and provide feedback to PSS project manager to ensure high quality implementation of project activities.
  • Establish and support a functioning referral system to relevant health services (including PSS and SGBV .
  • Prepare order requests to use funds for psychosocial support activities in line with Medair policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely referral of cases in need of further support (internally and externally) and coordinate with partners on complimentary PSS programs when possible.
  • Conduct group meetings and brainstorming sessions with beneficiaries for PSS related activities.
  • Conduct regular feedback sessions utilizing feedback tools.
  • Other tasks as requested. 

Training (10%)

  • Develop a plan for training and refresher training of CHVs and CBOs.
  • Build the capacities of community health volunteers (CHVs), including trainings on PSS, to facilitate participatory and inclusive activities
  • Set up and conduct trainings and refresher trainings on PSS curriculum used by Medair, PFA, psychosocial support, Sexual Gender Based Violence and referrals and ODK/data entry on tablets. 

Supervision (35%)

  •  Management, training and capacity building of CHVs, in addition to liaising with team members inside and outside the project; health team, cash team, finance, procurement, admin and HR.
  •  Supervise and support the activities of the CHVs.
  •  Ensure that appropriate PSS awareness, family sessions and legal awareness is given to the beneficiaries in a respectful manner.
  •  Keep records of supervision and actions taken from own activities and activities of the CHVs.
  •  Write monthly reports on community outreach activities according to Medair standards.
  •  Build relationships with authorities, communities, CHVs, and CBOs and support negotiation and problem solving when needed.

Data collection and Open Data Kit development (15%)

  • Develop appropriate Open Data Kit forms in collaboration with the MEAL/IM team.
  • Ensure CHVs are trained on using ODK on tablets.
  • Update data base for project services in coordination with the M&E and data management department.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on progress against targets in timely and high-quality manners.
  • Contribute to data entry and analysis of gathered data.
  • Conduct pre and post-session assessments for all PSS beneficiaries.

Staff interaction (10%)

  •  Attend regular staff meetings and contribute to discussions regarding the PSS programme.
  • Willingness to support other Medair programmes when required. 

Other Responsibilities (30%)

  • Provide input in in future planning and preparation process.
  • Assist in carrying out assessments/surveys baseline household surveys.
  • Support in implementation and monitoring of the PSS activities in participatory manner and in collaboration with the PSS Project Manager.
  • Ensure that gender and protection are mainstreamed in the programme.
  • Coordinate the referral mechanism internally with Medair staff and externally with UNHCR and other agencies as required by the projects.
  • Follow up closely to make sure that expenses are aligned with the budget accurately and transactions and close as per Medair and donors policies and regulations, with the support of the project manager.
  • With support of the project manager, coordinate with project stakeholders including government partners, CBOs, other NGOs and beneficiaries on the implementation plan of the program, in addition to communicating with other NGOs that are able to fulfill beneficiary needs that are not within the program design.
  • Other tasks as requested.

QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE:

Educational Qualifications

ESSENTIAL:

  • BA or equivalent in Psychology, Social Science, Social Work, Public Health, Human Rights or related degree.
  • Training on and experience in PSS activities.

DESIRABLE: 

  • Specific training to provide PSS sessions to different groups of refugees and vulnerable populations.

Work Experience

ESSENTIAL: 

  • At least 2 years’ experience in implementing PSS programs in humanitarian settings.
  • Strong knowledge of PSS and protection in emergencies programming.
  • Excellent understanding of PSS and protection issues and relevant major players in urban areas.
  • Demonstrated experience in capacity building and mentoring of staff and volunteers.
  • Community mobilization/working with community-based organizations.
  • Direct experience providing services to children at risk and victims of abuse, exploitation and violence and/or providing gender-sensitive and child-friendly counselling services. 

DESIRABLE: 

  • Experience facilitating focus group discussions or workshops.
  • Experience in report writing
  • Experience working on databases.
  • Experience designing and rolling trainings to diverse audiences.
  • Strong experience in training with good facilitation skills and ability to organize and implement trainings on sensitive topics. 

Languages

ESSENTIAL: 

  • Fluent Arabic.
  • Good written and spoken English.

DESIRABLE: 

  • Excellent written and spoken English.

JOB COMMITMENT

Working Lo​cation:

Amman ,Irbid and Zarqa, Field-based (70%), Medair office (30%), and accompaniment to other institutions/partner organisations, external meetings.

Starting date:

December 2021.

Duration of commitment:

9 months.
