The Middle East and North Africa region covers countries and territories from Morocco to the Islamic Republic of Iran, including Djibouti and Sudan in sub-Saharan Africa.The region is home to nearly 418 million people, including 157 million, or 38 per cent, who are under the age of 18. The Middle East and North Africa Regional Office is a hub for information, technical expertise, oversight and coordination for UNICEF Country Offices. It also supports these offices in their efforts to raise much-needed resources.
Specialist advisers based in Amman help develop programmes in health and nutrition, child protection, adolescent development, HIV and AIDS, education, water and sanitation, social policy and emergency preparedness.
The post is located in UNICEF’s Middle East and North Africa Regional Office in Amman, Jordan. The post holder will be part of the Social Policy team, which provides technical support and oversight to UNICEF country programmes in the region in the areas of child poverty monitoring, social protection and public finance for children. The post contributes critically to the unit’s work on Social Protection, with a special focus on humanitarian settings. The supervisor of the post is the Regional Social Policy Adviser (P5).
Key functions, accountabilities and related duties/tasks
Under the guidance and supervision of the Regional Social Policy Adviser, and in close collaboration with the MENARO Humanitarian Team, support the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of humanitarian cash and voucher programmes in MENA countries. The post will also be responsible for building capacity of Country Offices in humanitarian cash-based approaches – and linkages to social protection systems building wherever possible (including enhancing the shock-responsiveness of such systems) - and ensure regular coordination and partnership with other relevant regional actors.

This position is classified as “rotational” which means the incumbent is expected to rotate to another duty station upon completion of their tour of duty.
