The French section of Médecins Sans Frontières

is recruiting for its project in Amman.

Social Worker

CONTEXT

Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in crisis, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. Médecins Sans Frontières is running a reconstructive surgery program in Amman and is seeking a Social Worker.

Dimension of the project

Reconstructive Surgery Hospital with in average 550 admissions per year,

Over 1000 surgeries annually.

72 surgical beds and 126 rehabilitation beds.

2 OTs for orthopedic, maxillo-facial and plastic surgeries,

OPD with in average 550 consultations / month.

Physiotherapy and psychosocial department and a micro laboratory within the hospital.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Carry out all social-related activities, from identification to discharge, in order to assess the needed social support ahead from the arrival in Amman, to integrate the management of social/legal issues into the general follow-up of the patient during his stay in the hospital, to maximize his/her adherence to treatment and to improve his/her social reinstatement linked with his/her discharge to home country.

The social worker is the pivotal team member who links Outside and Inside the Hospital by highlighting and managing social situations that might impact on the proper medical and surgical follow-up of patients during their stay in the Program.

Upon arrival, identify social needs of patients through a social assessment when required by the admissions team (Deputy Admission and Networking Co.).

Respond to the patients’ social needs by giving direct social support (legal advice, direct contact with external partners/actors…) and/or refer to other social actors (when possible in relation with the specific situation of the patient: i.e. Syrians leaving in Jordan), in order to actively contribute to the improvement of their quality of living.

Upon the request of RC supervisor and/or Mental health department, conduct interviews with patients (and families) admitted in the hospital to assess and review their situation by:

Undertaking and writing up assessments (sometimes in collaboration with other professionals such as counsellors)

Offering information and support

Liaising with, and making referrals to, specialized agencies

Participating in multidisciplinary teams and meetings regarding, for example, child protection or cases related to legal status, social situations and referral specificities (anticipation of needs before discharge)

PROFILE

University bachelor’s degree in social work is required.

Two years minimum in a similar social job; experience with MSF or other NGOs, desirable.

Jordanian nationality.

Organized, flexible, able to work under pressure.

Communication skills and good team spirit.

Written and verbal fluency in English and Arabic is required.

WORK LOCATION: Amman

CONTRACT: Temporary full-time contract for 4 months.

Probable start date: 15th December 2021
