General Position Summary

Under the Direct Supervision of the Peace and Conflict Program Manager the Capacity Building Assistant will leads the provision of technical capacity building support to the project’s partner organization, aligned with the project’s design and guided by technical resources and approaches approved for the project, also, maintain liaison & communication with the project’s partner organization for different training program and support in electronic record keeping, database management and knowledge sharing management.

The position holder will work closely with the Peace and Conflict Program Officer (Amman-based), and implementing partners to ensure smooth, efficient and effective implementation of the capacity building plan for the project partner aligned.

Further, the position holder will ensure capacity building plan implementation aligns with the project work plan and approved technical approaches and standards. In addition, she/he will escalate concerns and challenges and communicate technical capacity gaps to the project manager as necessary.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Capacity Strengthening and Support to the project Partner

Assist to develop a detailed capacity building plan for the project partner aligned with the project’s priorities. The capacity building plan will include a focus on: community mobilization using Mercy Corps CATALYZE approach, negotiation and mediation, advocacy, awareness raising, access to justice (including legal counselling and case management), human rights and fundamental freedoms, conflict analysis, conflict early warning and response, consensus building, social cohesion, dialogue, protection mainstreaming

Adapt capacity building materials for the above mentioned focus areas as necessary to suit the context in specific locations targeted by the project.

Provide support to organize different workshops and training programs of the project.

Assist to design different training programs under direct supervision of the program manager;

Provide logistic supports during various training programs and workshops

Provide support to prepare training materials, meeting minutes or other relevant documents.

Assist to design and deliver capacity-building activities including training of trainers (ToT) for the project partner team on focus areas mentioned above. Ensure capacity-building activities are appropriate for adult learning and for a remote delivery modality.

Support with translation and review of Online Learning materials

Ensure consistency in partner facing capacity strengthening materials such as presentation, tools, quizzes, terminology, translation, etc

Work with the monitoring and evaluation officer to develop effective approaches and tools for tracking the progress and impact of capacity building activities throughout the project period

Use findings from monitoring and evaluation processes to refine training resources and approaches; and to design follow on capacity building activities including refresher trainings

Prepare monthly reports detailing progress against capacity building plan

Review all materials adapted by the project partner for trainings targeting direct project participants prior to the roll out of any trainings by the partner

Participate in monthly project review meetings and the peace and conflict community of practice as guided by the project manager.

Reports Directly to: Peace and Conflict Program Manager

Works Directly with: Peace and Conflict Program officer, Mercy Corps Program staff as well as staff from partner organization.

Knowledge and Experience

Graduate degree in peacebuilding/peace and conflict studies or related fields such as governance, humanities, social or political sciences, law, international relations or equivalent relevant field experience; or graduate degree in education with a specialization in one of the referenced field.

2 years of practical work experience in training facilitation.

At least 1-year experience delivering capacity building for program teams on peace, governance and access to justice thematic areas and crosscutting themes including protection mainstreaming, gender and disability inclusion

Knowledge and experience with packaging and delivering remote capacity building to local partner organizations

Experience in the usage of office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) & Internet.

Excellent command of English and Arabic is required.
